NADI
Nadi has duty free shops and a colourful market (at its best on Saturday
mornings). Fiji's international gateway, Nadi airport, is 6km from
the town.
DENARAU ISLAND
Denarau Island is 11km south and 20 minutes from Nadi airport. Denarau
Island is an island in itself, offering deluxe resorts, an 18 hole
championship golf course and 10 tennis courts.
SUVA
Fiji's capital and largest city is colourful and lively, with local
markets, restaurants & bars, a busy harbour and some buildings
from the colonial era. It is on the south-eastern side of the island,
linked to Nadi by the Queen's Road.
CORAL COAST
This popular holiday area is mid-way between Nadi and
Suva on the wide, sealed Queen's Road. Many major resort
hotels are here, strung out over a large area. Sigatoka
and Korolevu are the main towns and there are many small villages.
LAUTOKA
The Sugar City, Lautoka is Fiji’s second largest city and is
known for its sugar cane industry. Only 30 minutes drive
north of Nadi, Lautoka offers duty free shopping, markets, cinema’s and a variety of international cuisine.
MAMANUCA ISLANDS
This beautiful island chain lies in the
sunniest part of Fiji, between the Great Sea Reef
and the west coast of Viti Levu. A number of the islands are home to idyllic resorts.
YASAWA ISLANDS
The remote Yasawa Islands consists of a chain of 20 ancient
volcanic islands. They are home to some of the most
beautiful white sandy beaches and dramatic monoliths
surrounded by crystal clear lagoon providing a beautiful
environment. There is a range of accommodation choices
from backpackers style to
luxurious resorts.
LOMAIVITI ISLANDS
This unspoilt group of islands is on the Eastern side of Fiji,
30 km from Suva. The island of Toberua is part of this
group. In this area temperatures are mild, rainfall is moderate & sunshine is plentiful.
THE NORTH
Vanua Levu is Fiji’s second
largest island, offering
beautiful pristine beaches and lush green
terrain. The
island has spectacular waterfalls and hiking tracks that
await the more energetic. Savusavu is the main town on
Vanua Levu and offers a wide range of accommodation
from budget to luxury. Savusavu Bay attracts yachts
from all over the world, with it’s most popular timesbeing
May to October. For the more adventurous, this is where
you will find some of the top dive and fishing
spots in Fiji.
TAVEUNI
Taveuni is known as the Garden Island of Fiji. This is not only
for its lush tropical surroundings, but also for its spectacular
underwater coral gardens. It is fast becoming a magnetic
for the more adventurous diver and isbecoming a hot spot for sport
fishing. Taveuni is a divers adventure playground
offering top dive operations and world class diving sites. Only minutes away from the
main village of Somosomo is the International Dateline (180
degree meridien), where you can stand one foot
on today and the other on tomorrow.

and Visa - are accepted by the
majority
of hotels and resorts. To ensure a specific hotel does
accept your personal cards, enquire with that hotel before
booking.
Language: English
is the principal language and is widely spoken. Fijian and Hindustani
are also spoken.
Health: No inoculations are required.
However a check is advisable with your doctor.
Money: The currency used is the Fijian dollar. Travellers cheques are recommended.
Tipping : Tipping is not a custom in Fiji, but
you may do so if service is exceptional. Most resorts
have a staff fund that you can contribute to and all staff willenjoy the
rewards
Clothing: Lightweight informal summer wear is the usual
year-round attire. Light tropical style dresses for the
ladies and comfortable summer casuals for the men are
totally acceptable. Perhaps a jumper or light jacket is
advisable for the occasional cool evening. Bathing suits
and bikinis are fine to wear at the beach and resorts,
but is offensive to locals when wearing while visiting villages and shopping in town.
Shopping: Tapa is Fiji's most traditional product,
as well as woven baskets and mats. Bartering is still
conducted at the markets and in some duty-free shops,
but larger stores have fixed prices. Business hours
are Mon–
Thu 8am – 5pm, Fri till 6pm and Sat 8am – 1pm.
