Isle of Pines (Ile des Pins) : Located in the southern tip of New Caledonia, the island of the Ile des Pins is often referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Pacific’. Ile des Pins is known for its pristine beauty, prolific Norfolk pinetree skyline, aquamarine lagoons and powdery white sand beaches.

THE WORLD’S LARGEST LAGOON: Believe it or not, but New Caledonia is home to the worlds largest lagoon. No holiday to New Caledonia is complete if you don’t get your feet wet! Venture out on a catamaran, maybe a jet ski tour, scenic helicopter ride, diving excursions or even fishing. We can recommend sightseeing tours and excursions for you.

Shopping: Many shops offer duty free prices on an assortment of French goods and the latest range of European designer goods are available. Most shops close between 11am and 1.30pm.

Clothing : Light informal clothes are adequate all year round. Sweaters are advisable for cooler evenings. Shorts are not recommended for the evenings in restaurants

Climate: New Caledonia enjoys a balmy and sunny climate marked by two seasons -December to March - warm and humid and April to November -cool and dry.

Electrical appliances Current is 220 volts AC50 cycles with European-style two round-prong plug.

Language: French is the official language but English is widely understood and spoken in the tourist facilities and shops of Noumea.

Tipping: Please respect the local custom and do not tip.

Currency: New Caledonia’s monetary unit is the French Pacific Franc (XPF).
