accommodation options while studying in new zealand

Three choices of accommodation are available to students:
Homestay
For younger students, especially those wanting to study at secondary school, the best option is to live with a host family. This option provides a friendly living environment with an English speaking family, and ensures the student is in the safe hands of trusted adult guardians who have direct contact with the student's relatives back in their home country. The homestay family provides the student with his own room as well as meals and access to all necessary facilities in the family home. The weekly cost for this option ranges from approximately $190 to $260 dollars per week.

Student Accommodation
For University students wanting a bit more independence, the option of living in a Student Hostel is available. In general this option gives the student their own bedroom, with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Furniture and things like bedding are usually provided. Living with fellow students allows for an excellent learning environment and a great way of making friends. The weekly cost for this option ranges from approximately $140 to $210 per week and includes the cost of electricity and water, however food is not included in the price.

Flatting
A cheaper option is to rent a room in a shared house or an apartment building. Rooms are usually furnished, and weekly expenses are divided up between the number of people living in the house or apartment. The weekly cost for the rent can range from $100 to $200 depending on the location, the number of bedrooms and available facilities in the house. The cost of power and water would also vary depending on usage. This option is recommended for the more mature students who are able to undertake a high level of responsibility during their studies in New Zealand
