English Language Study in New Zealand

In New Zealand you will find many excellent English language institutions. Learning English in an English speaking country is a benefit in itself, as the student is constantly exposed to the foreign language environment, even when not in the classroom. Learning English can also open up numerous future academic and career paths for the ambitious student either in New Zealand or back in your home country.

 

General English Courses

English courses which can be taken on either a full (25 hours per week) or part time basis (up to 15 hours per week). The school will assess your existing English knowledge and will place you in classes at the appropriate level. From then the student can participate in the course for as long as they need. Please note that Student Visas will not be issued for part time English students.

 

Academic English Courses

These courses are intended for students preparing for university study in New Zealand. They are very intensive, last for approximately 12 weeks and are only available on a full time basis. Students wishing to undertake any academic English course need to have at least a basic knowledge of the English language before commencement. Upon successful completion of the academic English course, students can attempt the academic IELTS or TOEFL examination in order to gain admission into a university course.

Students with a minimal knowledge of the English language can undertake a general English course and then, at the advice of the school proceed onto the academic English course. Students with minimal English knowledge have the possibility of gaining the required level of English in approximately 6 months.

Weekly English school fees depend on the school, however they range from approximately $290 per week for a part time course to approximately $400 per week for a full time course.
